Pourerere is a small coastal community on the southern fringe of Hawke’s Bay, opening directly onto the Pacific Ocean. Sea temperatures here follow the familiar east coast pattern. In winter, from June through August, the water usually ranges between 13–15°C, which feels properly cold and is generally suited to surfers or swimmers wearing wetsuits. During spring the ocean gradually warms to around 15–17°C. Summer, from December to March, brings the most comfortable conditions, with sea temperatures commonly sitting between 19–22°C on settled, sunny days. Early autumn can still be mild, with the water holding at 18–20°C before steadily cooling as winter approaches.
