Waimarama Beach is a well-known coastal spot south of Havelock North, opening directly onto the Pacific Ocean. Water temperatures here follow the typical pattern for Hawke’s Bay. In winter, from June through August, the sea usually sits around 13–15°C, which feels properly cold and is generally suited to surfers or swimmers in wetsuits. As spring settles in, temperatures lift to about 15–17°C. Summer, from December to March, brings the warmest conditions, with water commonly ranging between 19–22°C during settled spells. Early autumn can still feel mild, with the sea holding at 18–20°C before gradually cooling again.
