Māpua is a small coastal village in the Tasman Region, set along the shores of Tasman Bay and influenced by the wider tidal flows of Cook Strait. Water temperatures here are generally milder than on more exposed coasts. In winter, from June to August, the sea typically ranges between 10–13°C, which feels cool and is usually only comfortable for hardy swimmers or those wearing full wetsuits. Through spring, temperatures gradually rise to around 12–15°C. Summer, from December to March, brings the warmest conditions, with water temperatures commonly sitting between 17–21°C during settled, sunny spells. Early autumn can still see 16–18°C before cooling again as winter approaches.
