Clarks Beach sits on the eastern side of the Manukau Harbour in the Auckland Region, sheltered from the open Tasman Sea by the harbour’s entrance and surrounding headlands. Because of this protected setting, water temperatures can feel slightly warmer and calmer than on exposed west coast beaches. In summer, particularly from January to March, the water generally ranges between 19 and 22°C, which is comfortable for swimming on a sunny day. Through autumn, temperatures tend to ease back to around 17 to 20°C. Winter sees cooler conditions, usually between 14 and 16°C, while spring brings a gradual rise from roughly 15 to 18°C. Shallow harbour waters can warm up quickly in settled weather, especially at high tide.
