Sea temperatures here are similar to other upper North Island west coast beaches, though the exposed setting can make the water feel cooler than the numbers suggest. In summer, from January through March, water temperatures generally range between 18 and 21°C, which many locals consider swimmable on a warm, settled day. During autumn, the sea usually sits between 16 and 19°C. Winter brings cooler conditions, often around 13 to 15°C, while spring sees a gradual rise from roughly 14 up to 17°C. Strong westerlies or large swells can mix the water and create short-term temperature changes.
