Anawhata is a secluded west coast beach in the Auckland Region, facing the Tasman Sea and surrounded by native bush and steep cliffs. Like other beaches along this stretch, sea temperatures follow a clear seasonal cycle. In summer, particularly from January to March, the water typically ranges between 18 and 21°C. On a warm, calm day this can feel comfortable enough for a swim, although the first plunge is often brisk. Through autumn, temperatures generally ease back to around 16 to 19°C. Winter sees cooler conditions, with the sea usually between 13 and 15°C, while spring gradually warms from about 14 to 17°C as summer approaches. Changes in wind and swell can briefly alter surface temperatures.
