Tauranga Bay, located on the east coast of the Far North in the Northland Region, faces the Pacific Ocean and is known for its sandy shoreline and clear coastal waters. Sea temperatures here are relatively mild compared with much of New Zealand due to the influence of warmer currents reaching the upper North Island. In summer, from December through February, water temperatures generally range between 19°C and 22°C, offering comfortable conditions for swimming on fine days. During autumn, the sea often stays around 18–20°C before gradually cooling. Winter temperatures usually sit between 14°C and 16°C, while spring brings a steady increase from roughly 15°C towards 18°C as the weather improves.
