Tokerau Beach sits along the eastern side of the Far North in Doubtless Bay, facing the Pacific Ocean but with some natural shelter from the wider bay. Thanks to its northern position, sea temperatures here are generally warmer than in much of the country. Over summer, from December to February, water temperatures typically range between 19°C and 22°C, occasionally climbing a little higher during extended settled spells. In autumn, the sea often remains pleasant at around 18–20°C before gradually cooling. Winter temperatures usually fall to between 14°C and 16°C, while spring brings a steady rise from roughly 15°C towards 18°C as conditions improve.
