Takou Bay is a quiet coastal area in the Far North of the Northland Region, opening onto the Pacific Ocean and characterised by a mix of sandy stretches and rocky sections. Being situated in the upper North Island, it experiences relatively mild sea temperatures compared with much of New Zealand. During summer, from December through February, water temperatures typically range between 19°C and 22°C, offering comfortable conditions for swimming on settled days. In autumn, the sea often remains around 18–20°C before gradually cooling.
