Ohiwa Beach, near the eastern edge of the Bay of Plenty, stretches along the Pacific coast close to the entrance of Ōhiwa Harbour. Sea temperatures here follow the wider regional pattern and are relatively mild in summer compared with much of Aotearoa. From January through March, water temperatures typically range between 19–22°C, which most locals find comfortable for swimming on warm, settled days. In spring and autumn, the ocean usually sits around 16–19°C, still suitable for a dip, although it can feel fresh when you first step in. During winter, temperatures often drop to about 13–15°C, making the water noticeably cool and better suited to short swims or those wearing wetsuits.
