Browns Bay is a popular beachside suburb on Auckland’s North Shore, facing the Hauraki Gulf and the Pacific Ocean. Thanks to its sheltered position within the gulf, sea conditions are generally calmer than on exposed ocean beaches. In summer, particularly from January through March, water temperatures usually range between 19 and 22°C. At these levels, most locals find the sea comfortable for regular swimming, especially on warm, settled days. During autumn, temperatures gradually cool to around 17 to 20°C. Winter brings cooler water, typically between 14 and 16°C, while spring sees a steady rise from about 15 up to 18°C. Shallow areas near the shore can warm quickly during sunny spells.
