Ward Beach, on the southern edge of the Marlborough Region, faces the Pacific Ocean along a quiet and largely undeveloped stretch of coastline. Sea temperatures here reflect the cooler eastern waters influenced by ocean currents moving up from the south. In winter, from June to August, the water generally ranges between 9–12°C, which feels properly cold and is usually only comfortable for hardy swimmers or those wearing full wetsuits. Through spring, temperatures gradually lift to around 11–14°C. Summer, from December to March, brings the mildest conditions, with sea temperatures commonly sitting between 15–19°C during settled, sunny spells. Early autumn can still see 14–17°C before cooling again as winter approaches.
