The Tutaekuri River flows from the Kaweka Ranges through inland Hawke’s Bay before reaching the coast near Napier. Its water temperature reflects a mix of upland sources and warmer lowland conditions. In winter, temperatures are generally around 8–11°C, particularly in the upper reaches. During spring, readings typically rise to between 12 and 16°C as air temperatures increase. In summer, especially in January and February, calmer stretches and deeper pools can warm to approximately 18–22°C on hot Hawke’s Bay days.
