Parengarenga Harbour, in the Far North of the Northland Region, is a large and sheltered harbour system opening to the Pacific Ocean. Because of its northern location, water temperatures here are relatively mild by New Zealand standards. In summer, from December to February, harbour water temperatures typically range between 19°C and 22°C, occasionally edging slightly higher in shallow areas that warm quickly under strong sun. Autumn often remains comfortable at around 18–20°C before gradually cooling. During winter, temperatures usually sit between 14°C and 16°C, while spring sees a steady increase from about 15°C up towards 18°C as conditions improve.
