Lake Rotomā, in the Bay of Plenty Region between Rotorua and Whakatāne, is a clear volcanic lake known for its relatively good water quality and sheltered bays. Its water temperature reflects the warm eastern North Island climate and moderate depth. In winter, surface temperatures are generally around 11–15°C. During spring, the lake gradually warms to approximately 15–19°C as air temperatures rise. In summer, particularly in January and February, near-shore areas can reach about 20–24°C on calm, sunny days, while deeper water remains slightly cooler.
