Hot Water Beach is a unique coastal spot on the eastern side of the Coromandel Peninsula in the Waikato Region, facing the Pacific Ocean. The beach is open to ocean swells, but it is best known for its geothermal springs that seep up through the sand at low tide. Sea temperatures follow the usual seasonal pattern for this part of New Zealand. In summer, particularly from January through March, the ocean water generally ranges between 19 and 22°C, which most locals find comfortable for swimming. During autumn, temperatures ease back to around 17 to 20°C. Winter brings cooler readings, typically between 14 and 16°C, while spring sees a gradual rise from roughly 15 up to 18°C. Wind and swell can cause short-term variations in surface temperature.
